Create, Capture

Creating a brand rooted in the people, products and purpose behind it.

In August 2024, I worked with the team of UMPC in India to develop the branding strategy for their handicraft products under the Sarayan brand.

For me, understanding the people behind a brand is just as important as understanding the products themselves. As part of the process, I visited one of the villages and spent time with the women producing the products, learning more about their daily lives, their businesses and the environment they were working in. I also photographed them and their surroundings, creating an authentic visual record of the people and context behind Sarayan. Some of these images later became part of the brand book itself.

The personal stories of some of the women made it even more worth investing time and energy in the brand. Their personal journeys also show what economic independence can mean. From having no stable source of income and an uncertain future, to building their own livelinghood, becoming an agri-entrepreneur and part of UMPC.

Together with the team, I worked on defining what Sarayan brand should stand for and how its visual identity could communicate both the quality of the products and the strength of the organisation and women behind it. The personal aspect also was captured in the brand concept. With a small note attached to every product, telling something about the women that made it.

A branding project where strategy started with listening and where the people behind the products became part of the visual story of the brand itself.

A relaunch with a smarter approach to packaging.

As part of my interim assignment at Dayes, I led the redesign of the My Style hair accessories range, sold across multiple European retailers. The project started with a clear challenge: improving visibility on shelf, creating a stronger and more recognisable brand identity, and significantly improving the sustainability of the packaging.

The original black-and-white packaging had a stylish appearance but tended to blend into dark retail shelving. Working closely with the design team, we developed a softer pastel colour palette that gave the range a fresh, distinctive identity. The colours also served a functional purpose, creating clear navigation between the two product categories: pink for Beauty and mint for Hair Accessories

But this project went well beyond visual design. By rethinking the packaging with sustainability in mind, rather than simply refreshing its appearance, we achieved a 70% reduction in plastic, introduced more sustainable materials including FSC-certified cardboard, and reduced overall packaging costs by approximately 5%.

The result was a completely refreshed range that not only stands out on shelf but also delivers meaningful improvements in sustainability and cost efficiency.

Let's create something bold.
